Despite Early Exit, Wilkerson Confident Headed To Next Race

DESPITE EARLY EXIT, WILKERSON CONFIDENT HEADED TO NEXT RACE

Commerce, GA (May 15, 2016) – Tim Wilkerson faced a lot of pressure coming into the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. He had sponsors from Summit Racing and Levi, Ray & Shoup in the stands cheering him on.

Tim debuted a new body from Murf McKinney on his Levi, Ray & Shoup Nitro Funny Car this weekend. He qualified the Ford Shelby Mustang in the No.7 spot with a 4.001 elapsed time at 320.66 mph. Wilkerson had the second fastest time in two qualifying rounds, which gave him some needed bonus points in the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Championship Point Standings.

In round one of eliminations, Wilkerson faced Del Worsham. Wilkerson drove 4.064/310.48 but lost to Worsham’s 3.975/287.11.

“We had a start-switch malfunction on the thing and the clutch never started. So that’s what slowed it down. So we traced it and I think we figured it out and fixed it so we won’t have that problem again,” said Wilkerson. “You know that stuff never happens in qualifying it only happens in eliminations.”

Despite the early exit, Wilkerson is No. 3 in points heading in the next race in the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series, the NHRA Kansas Nationals in Topeka, KS May 20 – 22, 2016.
