Goodson Race Day 2017

Goodson Race Day
Wow! What a day! We’ve had a lot of Race Days at Goodson in my years here, but this year was something extra special.
First off, Terry McMillen brought his whole team, family, etc. for the day. They set up their Top Fuel Dragster so everyone could see it and even fired it up.  One young man in the crowd was surprised at how powerful the car was, saying, “I felt that, Mom. It pushed me back!”
For the first time in my years with Goodson, we hosted a Nitro Funny Car. Dale Creasy, Jr. brought his crew in to have some one-on-one with the Goodson employees and guests. To round out the NHRA contingent, Samsel Racing brought their Top Alcohol Dragster for everyone to see. Retired Tech Services Manager, Jim Tapp, spent quite some time talking with Wayne Butler with Samsel. He said he was very impressed with the technology they use to make so much horsepower with a naturally aspirated system.
Another first this year was the appearance of the Sobeck United States X-Country Snowmobile Racing Team. Seems natural, us being in Minnesota. Who knew, snowmobiles could go that fast?
So, why do we have a Goodson Race Day? A couple of reasons. First, it’s for the employees. It’s a great opportunity for us to see the “fun” side of our business. Drag Racing results in a lot of engines that need to be rebuilt. Second, it’s a way to show our appreciation to the race teams who fly our flag, so to speak, at every event. It’s a chance to connect one-on-one and make some friendships that will last for years.
To summarize, I guess I’d have to say, A fun time was had by all.
Thank you to The NHRA drivers, crew members and sponsors who made this day possible!
