Mick Snyder Chicago NHRA Divisional Pre Race
Snyder Looks for Windy City Win
Mick Snyder and the Powersource Transportation team are headed just a short hour and a half down the street to Route 66 Raceway this weekend. The track located in Joliet, IL just outside of the Windy City will host the Burndown at Sundown NHRA Division 3 Regional. This will be the fourth stop for Snyder Motorsports’ Supercharged, EFI Top Sportsman 1963 Corvette that is Snyder Lencodrive equipped. The Team has been qualifying at the top of the pack all season. The 5-time Season Champs are looking to keep the great performance going this weekend in front of the hometown crowd. The Burndown at Sundown runs from June 3rd through the 5th and will feature the Top Sportsman and Top Dragster Flatout Gaskets Fast Four Shootout during the Saturday night show before the jet cars and fireworks display.
“Here we go again! I love racing the Powersource Transportation Vette in Chicago! It’s close to home, the shop and Powersource. Heck, we can get an extra day of work in at Snyder Motorsports before we have to leave for the track,” Snyder laughed. “And, we needed that extra day this week. The shop has been busy and we had a short week. On Tuesday, the car was in a million pieces. It was time to do some preventive maintenance with back-to-back races coming up, next week is PDRA in Martin, MI. We got everything back together with a few little changes that should make her perform a little better. We have a Flatout Gaskets Fast Four and an almost 230 mile per hour bracket race this weekend. I’m pretty excited.”
“I talked about this before the last Divisional, and it has been fun to reminisce a little. There seems to be a story with every track anymore. Some places there are a few. Well Route 66 Raceway is no different; we’ve won here, hit the wall here, lost a rear wheel, tire and hub and didn’t get the wall here, got our TAFC license, backed over a golf cart with the funny car and made countless test passes here.” Snyder continued, “One of my favorite stories was in 2004, we were racing the Snyder Motorsports Top Alcohol Funny Car at the Carquest Nationals. It was the fall national back when Chicago had two a year. This was our first full season in TAFC. We were lacking a major sponsor, but we were having a great year and even leading the Division 3 points at the time. With the All-Star race, first round was early Sunday morning. Saturday night was a late one as we signed a major sponsor for the next season. We woke up and it was so cold the computer wouldn’t even turn on. We used a hair dryer to get the computer fired up and gas to get the funny car to lite. Round after round, we went up against All-Star after All-Star from other divisions until we made it to the finals. We had consistently 5.60’d the field. In the finals, our opponent shook and we ran another 5.60 to earn our first ever NHRA Wally at our home track. Jay Payne delivered the “Winner’s Beer” to me while we were still on the scales. It was a pretty amazing weekend for a low buck family team. Lucky for us, we had a lot of help loading the trailer after a long Winner’s Circle.”
As Snyder looks for another win at Chicago, the first of 3 rounds of qualifying for the NHRA Cavalcade of Stars begins on Friday at 3:00 PM. Qualifying continues on Saturday with two more chances to make the 32-car field at 3:00 and 7:30, as well as the Flatout Fast Four Heads Up Shootout Eliminations around 7:00 and 9:00 for the Top 4 Top Sportsman and Top Dragster Qualifiers. Final eliminations will begin on Sunday at 10:30 AM. For up to date information please log onto www.dragracecentral.com
